What is an SSL Certificate?

An SSL Certificate is a piece of unique code attached to a website that provides secure communications between your computer's web browser and the web site. You can think of SSL certificates like sealing an envelope before mailing it to someone. It prevents untrusted sources from tempering with your communications. 207 Hosts has partnered with Comodo to provide you with SSL certificates at a discounted annual fee.

Do I need an SSL Certificate for my website or server?

  • Do you have an e-commerce website that accepts credit card information?
  • Do you have any type of login fields with usernames and passwords that need to be encrypted?
  • Does your website handle any sensitive data, such as data input from customers?
If you answered yes to any of these questions, then you should have an SSL certificate installed on your website to protect your data.

What are the differences between the SSL Certificates?

SSL certificates come in different versions. The more expensive SSL certificates shows visitors of your website more trust, that you went through a rigorous process to get the SSL Certificate to prove who your company is and why your company required an SSL certificate. Higher end certificates also enable features like Green Address Bar in modern web browsers like Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, and Internet Explorer. Here is a brief overview of the different SSL certificates that we offer:

Comodo PositiveSSL Single Domain Certificate Comodo PositiveSSL Single-domain is one of the most popular and inexpensive SSL certificates in the industry. This hassle-free certificate is the ideal choice for websites where the brand's trust is already established and organization verification is not needed. It's ideal for securing low-volume e-commerce websites. You can reissue the certificate for free at any time from the customer portal.
Comodo PositiveSSL Multi Domain Certificate PositiveSSL Multi-Domain SSL certificates allow enterprises and web hosts to secure multiple websites by including up to 100 domains within a single certificate (3 domain names are included by default). Enterprises can consolidate all their secure domains into a single cert. For example: secure.mydomain.com, secure.mydomain.co.uk and secure.mydomain.net. This certificate can be issued in 15 minutes or less. You can reissue the certificate for free at any time from the customer portal.
Each multi-domain certificate considers www.example.com and example.com as two different FQDNs. Both FQDNs need to be included when purchasing the certificate for proper installation.
Comodo PositiveSSL Wildcard Certificate PositiveSSL Wildcard is a cost-effective solution for securing multiple subdomains of a single domain. PositiveSSL Wildcard certificates secure unlimited subdomains and are easy to install, saving you time and effort. A PositiveSSL Wildcard SSL certificate issued to *.yourdomain.com is valid for: www.yourdomain.com, secure.yourdomain.com, mail.yourdomain.com, etc. Can be issued in under 15 minutes. You can reissue the certificate for free at any time from the customer portal.

Can I purchase an SSL Certificate for longer than 1 Year period?

The SSL certificate industry and web browsers no longer support SSL certificates with periods longer than 1 Year. To make it less confusing for our customers, we've set the max period that you can buy an SSL certificate through us for 1 Year. At the end of the 1 Year Period, you'll need to renew (purchase a new certificate) in order to continue to use the SSL certificate.

What is the cost for an SSL Certificate?

There is an annual fee to purchase a SSL Certificate. Please view the table at the top of the page for pricing.

* To qualify for the discounted price, additional certificates must be purchased at time of original order. Purchasing certificates one at a time will not qualify for discounted price.
* A Dedicated IP address is required to use any paid SSL certificate with 207 Hosts webhosting accounts. cPanel generated or Lets Encrypt certificates do not require a dedicated IP address. Please visit our customer portal for the costs.
* Starting March 2, 2017, all new SSL certificates ordered can be issued for a maximum of 2 years, per CAB Forum guidelines (industry group of Certificate Authorities and Web Browser vendors).

Can I purchase a SSL Certificate elsewhere and use it with your webhosting services?

Yes. You will need to provide the SSL certificate and bundled CA certificate to our support department in order for us to install it on our servers.
